What is Restless Legs Syndrome?

Restless legs syndrome can be described as an uncontrollable or persistent urge to move your legs because of an awkward or creeping feeling in the lower extremities. The symptoms are often experienced most in the evening hours when you're sitting or lying down. Moving around may relieve the symptoms temporarily.

Many of the symptoms of Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) are also associated with varicose veins and venous insufficiency. Furthermore, chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and varicose veins may actually cause RLS. Because the two medical conditions have similarities, individuals with symptoms of RLS should also be examined for venous insufficiency. People with symptoms of RLS may have an underlying venous disease that can be diagnosed and treated in a medical office setting.

Individuals suffering from restless legs, creeping legs or achy legs should request a consultation with a vein specialist. Take our self assessment quiz here. Please contact 775-325-3600 to schedule an appointment with a vein specialist.
